I don’t really understand what’s the reason behind people having to “excuse” themselves for not likeing -or not picking up- Halo 3.

Yes, I know many bring up the fact that maybe 25% of 360 owners go it but, you could also say the 75% of us actually didn’t.

In my case I did not pick it up, and by looking at what the “fanboys” are saying now, I’m glad I didn’t. I did play -and finished- Halo 1, and that’s pretty much where my “Halo fever” ended.

I am married and have two kids (under 4) and as you might guess that leaves me not much time for gaming (add to the fact that my wife dislikes me gaming and you can do the math) and so usually I try to keep my library as diverse as possible.

I like to try new or different things, and so in regards of the genre aforementioned, I couldn’t see myself playing 3 Halos… instead I went for Prey (very unique single player, best, most real way of using the “f” word in a game IMO, but totally lackluster -crap- MP), Gears of War (awesome overall) Bioshock (super awesome overall) and lately, I passed on Halo3 and just went for The Orange Box.

I’m not a believer of trilogies or sequels. They obviously work for the industry though but, with such a vast array of games spread over the whole spectrum of genres (and even withing the same genre so many choices), why would I settle to play 3 versions of the same game and not choose to have 3 very distinct experiences instead?

At $60 a pop It’s quite hard to justify a sequel purchase. What do you guys think?

Anyway, great show, keep it up!

Intellectually, I totally agree. But my emotional fervor to be part of the flavor-of-the-month just wouldn’t let me pass Halo 3 up. I rationalize it by convincing myself that the boatloads of dough publishers make off franchise sequels are what allow them to take a chance on new IP. I’m not sure if that’s even remotely true–but it makes me feel better.

I bought it because I wanted to get laid.

Great show you guys, again dead on with the Halo talk, especially about the story line, level 8(god the level blows ass), and co-op campain

Thanks Mik for the plug on the contest, and BTW it does make sense to give away the legendary edition because A. Most people don’t have that version and B. That’s one hell of a trade in value if you do have it(it is unopened) plus we do have many other prizes listed there too

Portal great game but not GOTY

And as far as gamestop only selling you the game if you perordered it, fucking retarded, I guess they don’t wanna make money

Oh crap–I forgot to post the link to the contest sign up.

Go here. Sign up. Shoot people in the face. Win a helmet for your junk.

And don’t mind Josh–he’s just using that biting sarcasm to insulate himself from the pain of getting owned on Snowbound.

  7. Ya know, the podcast prior to this I sat in my chair with my pc headphones on and listened to podcast 26 and played single player Halo 3 and was generally really happy… I really enjoy the gameplay in halo still… i even enjoyed the adventure into the flood’s anus. It was a good podcast too so it was a good 45 minutes or so.

This week i did the same but instead was playing Half Life 2. You guys had me laughing, half life 2 (which ive owned since launch on my fairly powerful pc) had me smiling… and generally speaking i was happier than a hog in shit!

To me… halo 3’s single player (more specifically co-op, but i still did enjoy it solo) is the best part of the package. The MP, to me, was really stale. It just did absolutely nothing for me. The matchmaking is ground breaking, not always in a good way, but technically its pretty awesome. But the gameplay - meh. But for whatever reason i did still find the gameplay in the story to be fresh. Ya, i know it makes no sense… but thats how i saw it.

Half Life 2, on the other hand, is just unbelievable. I have issues with its story - or lack there of. I still dont really understand what the fuck is going on. I beat it 3 years ago… but i was a drunk at the time and i really dont remember a fucking thing about it. Every 20 mins or so i hit something and im like ‘oh yeah i remember that’ but for the most part its like im playing it for the first time. Anyway, the way the game unfolds is fucking amazing. At first its just like wow its like a real world and here are some complex puzzles… neat. Then you get in the boat and you are like this is Half Life?!?! (for the uninitiated HL1 is 99% in corridors of a research facility). Then you get the gravity gun…. then you get to some really fucking insane level design… and holy shit this game went from awesome to IM FUCKING SHITTING MY PANTS THIS GAME IS SO FUCKING AMAZING.

I definitely put Portal in my top 5 of the year. Ive already typed too much… but i could write a fucking 100 page essay on that game. Holy shit is it awesome.

Ep1 and 2 are waiting for me to beat hl2 again. I did fire up ep2 just to check out the graphics…. hot damn.

And Team Fortress 2 is the MP goty. Im calling it now because it doesnt matter what comes out… tf2 is just fucking amazing. Now release the patch already valve.

Anyway, i totally rambled, but i enjoyed halo 3 quite a bit… but Orange Box is the best ‘game’ that has ever been released. It’s so good its absurd.

I’ve beaten Half-Life 2 probably 4 times on the PC. But I still started it over before moving on to Ep. 1 & 2. It’s pretty remarkable how well it holds up. Not many 3-year-old games do.

I kinda forgot how long it is, too. Halo 3 and Bioshock were games I could pretty much polish off in 2-3 sittings. Not so with HL2–probably because you can, you know, die. No vita-chambers. No automatic health recharge.
